Whats I"m Up To

1.29.2003

I've been thinking lately, maybe comics are be coming poular again, I mean i know the movies have generating a lot of interest. But as of late I know more of my friends, and many of the friends of my old roommate James have begun or restarted reading comics. In my friends case I blame myself, I mean I got James back into it, and he got as bad or worse than me. Then when he went back home got most of his friends into it. Then this summer, I got Ferro into it, and soon after our friend Matt got back into it a bit himself. Ferro took to it pretty well, he very soon had a stack of comics as big as mine every week. Heck he has our comic guy reserve stuff for him now. And then Zara got into it after seeing the X-Men movie finally. She became a fiend pretty quickly.

I realize I had some impact on getting a few of these people into it. But it would have to be more than that, if the stories weren't good then they wouldn't buy more. I personally think this is one of the best times for comics I've expereinced. The Market has become less flooded (there were about 7 comics with an X-Something in the name at one point), less books overall are coming out, but each one has increased in quality. Comics have become a lot less gimicky, for the most part, no more chromium foil covers, or the "Spider-Armor" type bullsgit that went all thorugh the nintys. Another thing is that writers have taken center stage again. I've found myself following certain writers a lot more than i follow artists now. One thing I attribute is the movies, they have brought comics back out of the corners and somewhat more into popular culture again. Considering the success of movies like X-Men, and the amazing success of Spider-Man, and even the newly released Daredevil.

(Note I started this on Jan. 29 and I just tied it up a bit now, I'll prolly finish this little rant/article at some point.)

Was checking out my daily webcomics, and Mac Hall had a really interesting link in their posting area (the comic was quite exceptional as well) i want to link there myself 3D-Anime, in fact I added it to my Retreat(Links) area.

This 3D Artist has created an Anime styled character entirely out of 3D graphics, and it looks like he used an advanced form of cell-shading (graphics like in Jet Set Radio, or Sly Cooper) on the model and it looks as if it was hand drawn animation, I was pretty impressed, I pride myself on being able to notice things like that, not because I am full of myself but simply because...I can. But even though I knew it was computer generated, I was still in disbelief over it.
I got to thinking that it seems that this is a big direction for computer graphics, it seems many graphics companies who do wholly 3D entertainment are going in this direction. I mean Mainframe Entertainment who has done fine work in the past with Beast Wars and Reboot, have been trying to go in this direction for a while, I have not yet seen much of their attempts in motion yet. They have 3 series s far as I know in the works which plan to use a simlar style, the new Spider-Man series for MTV, a show based on the comicbook GateCrasher, and Fairy Godmther based on some kids books. Also we have Square coming out with Unlimited SaGa, the next in the SaGa series, they are have a technique they call scetch-motion, to make 3D-Animation look like paintings, which looks amazing, and they have succeded in that any still shot you'd sware was hand drawn.

But yes imagine if this got mainstream, and major Animation companies switched to it, after the initial adjustment episodes would take incedbly shorter times to produce. Things like the Simpsons could be done in a few weeks, as oppsed to a few months. Or Anime series, could be done obscenely fast, since that is what this artist intends it for. It could really change the industry. Or Game companies, during the next generation of Hardware deveopment, animation and graphics such as this could be done real-time, imagine a game that looked exactly like a hand drawn Anime show, many games try to go for that style but few do it well enough to note. Or a game based on an anime show, that looked exactly as the source material.

I saw this on Monday, and it just really caught my attention, and got me a little hyper, plus its jut really cool to look at. While I hope hand-drawn stuff never fades away, its still neat to think about some series trying it. Well thats all I got for now, till next time I remain

Hello, Hello, Hello
Yeah i just remembered I had a website, my bad. I actually got a question for the "Ask Yanni" or Inquiry section of the website, which came in a while ago but for some reason i went from checking my e-mail everyday to maybe once a week. But anyway I got a question and answered it, which got me back to blogger (how I update this and the Inquiry section of the site) so I figured I might as well put something here to show I'm still alive.

I went to visit the old school house the other day, saw some of the teachers I liked that havn't been fired or kicked out yet by the crazy administration there, and of course the few people I know that still go there. It was pretty cool, the one thing that stood out for me was i got to talk to my old teacher Mr. Salata, I had him for a class in Adobe Photoshop, he was new to teaching for that program where as I already knew how to use it, and he gave me a hard time, so I gave him a hard time, but overall I did like the guy. This was the first time I got to talk to him since i graduated almost 1.5 years ago. And he me told how sorry he was for giving me a hard time, and I was like floored, it was such a nice thing to say and he really meant it. I just had a realy good feeling about that, but not in the "Haha he finally knows he was wrong" kinda way, in the other way, the good way.

Also while I was there someone mentioned to me that they liked my website which is really odd, because I don't think i knew this kid. So like thats also pretty cool, I mean word of mouth is going around, and thats damn cool.

Also I want to say Christmas was really good to me. I got a PS2, I want you to guess why I havn't updated that much. Been playing Sly Cooper, and now Final Fantasy X. So yeah when I'm not with my friends or at work...thats what I've been doing I guess. Well that and reading Comics, that goes without saying. Perhaps I'll have a review for Sly Cooper up eventually, cause thats a really good game, and I know everyone's prolly heard it elsewhere but I can't stress enough how fun that game is.
Thats all for now folks, thats for visiting. :-)
